(Update: Call Closed) Calling All Students! Ethics Lab Student Fellowship Applications Now Open

Are you interested in better understanding complex ethical issues at the intersection of technology and the environment? Excited to imagine new possibilities and just futures? Eager to meet and talk with leading researchers and industry experts?

Ethics Lab is currently seeking applicants for its spring semester cohort of Student Fellows to further the work of innovative ethics at the intersection of technology and the environment. 

Compensation:

  • An award of $850

Student Fellow responsibilities include:

  • Conducting research into the ethical landscape of one topic at the intersection of tech and the environment

  • Developing a design-oriented final product that will present key findings

  • Developing an annotated bibliography of works related to the technical, environmental, and ethical aspects of the topic

  • Participating in 5 cohort workshops on tech and environmental ethics and zine design

  • Hosting an event with the rest of the cohort on initial findings during Tech & Society week

  • Presenting final products at the end of the semester

 

Student Fellow opportunities include:

  • Access to Ethics Lab’s core team for mentorship on content and design

  • Access to a mentor in a field related to the Fellow’s research topic (professor or practitioner in the field)

 

Eligibility

This application is open to all undergraduate Georgetown students, in any year of study and across all schools.

Students considering or affiliated with Computer Science, STIA, Policy, CCT, Environmental Science, Environmental Justice, Philosophy, and similar programs – including Freshmen and Sophomores – are strongly encouraged to apply. 

 

Application Process

  • Complete the Expression of Interest form by Wednesday, November 30, 2022.

  • By December 2, the review committee will begin scheduling interviews with select applicants. Applicants at this round will be asked to share a copy of their CV.

  • The committee will make selections and notify applicants by Thursday, December 15, 2022.

Decision Criteria:

The review committee will select this year’s Student Fellows based on applicants'

  • demonstrated interest in complex and inchoate issues in tech or the environment

  • degree of background knowledge in tech, environmental science, and/or ethics

  • enthusiasm for working in teams (whether in professional, academic, or extra-curricular settings) and for engaging productively and respectfully with diverse perspectives
