Ethicists ask questions about how the world should be. At Ethics Lab, we tackle the challenge of how we get there.

Ethics Lab is a unique team at Georgetown University developing creative methods for students, policy teams, and organizations to build ethics into their work. Our approach combines deep expertise in moral philosophy and the creative methods of design to develop educational exercises and facilitate conversations that surface the values at stake in emerging, complex situations. This work is active, multidisciplinary, highly collaborative, and centered on the development of socially responsible practices and policies.

The Opportunity

Ethics Lab invites applications for a one-year, full-time Assistant Research Professor in design, creative pedagogy, or related fields. We seek candidates with an outstanding record of creative practice, including experience addressing the intersection of design, technology, ethics, and social impact in a professional, educational, or community leadership role. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in and capacity for facilitating entry- to upper-level undergraduate courses.

The Action

This Assistant Research Professor supports Ethics Lab’s ongoing research and development of creative methods and practice of ethics. This position will co-lead a portfolio of educational projects focused on issues of technology, ethics, and society, including the collaborative design, development, and facilitation of creative learning experiences in undergraduate and graduate courses. This position will also contribute in a supporting role to the creative capacity of other Ethics Lab projects, including engagements with external research teams and organizations.

Must Haves

  • Master’s degree

  • Experience developing and delivering creative teaching & learning experiences for young adults / professionals (examples could include academic courses, youth creativity programs, adult education workshops, community convenings, etc)

  • Demonstrated interest in the intersection of tech, ethics, and society
