(Update: Call closed) Calling All Students! Ethics Lab Student Fellowship Applications Now Open
Are you interested in better understanding the social impacts of emerging technologies? Excited to imagine new possibilities and more equitable futures? Eager to meet and talk with leading researchers and industry experts?
Ethics Lab is currently seeking applicants for its inaugural cohort of Student Fellows to further the work of innovative ethics education at the intersection of technology, ethics, and society, and create new community-building events to connect interested students, teachers, and allies.
Action
The scope of the Student Fellowship includes:
“Creative Sandbox” — participation in monthly “design jams” with Ethics Lab or Faculty Fellows to help imagine, prototype, and play with new ideas for creative ethics-centered learning experiences related to issues of data, democracy, AI, programming, surveillance, and more
“Student Fellow Events” – contribute to the support, promotion, and facilitation of 3 student events organized around guests from industry, research, advocacy, or policy at the intersection of technology, ethics, and society
A commitment of, on average, 10 hours per month collaborating with the Ethics Lab team. The fellowship is scheduled to launch October 22nd and continue through the end of the academic year.
Fellows will also:
Receive an award of $1,000
Have access to Ethics Lab’s core team for mentorship on related projects
Connect with a network of leaders on Georgetown's campus who are advancing the work of responsible tech education
Eligibility
This application is open to all Georgetown students, in any year of study and across all schools.
Students considering or affiliated with the Computer Science, STIA, Policy, or CCT programs – including Freshmen and Sophomores – are strongly encouraged to apply.
Application Process
Complete the Expression of Interest form by Wednesday, September 29, 2021.
By October 1, the review committee will begin scheduling interviews with select applicants. Applicants at this round will be asked to share a copy of their CV.
The committee will make selections and notify applicants by Friday, October 15, 2021.
Decision Criteria:
The review committee will select this year’s Student Fellows based on applicants'
demonstrated interest in re-imagining learning experiences regarding the intersection of tech, ethics, and society
enthusiasm for working in teams (whether in professional, academic, or extra-curricular settings) and for engaging productively and respectfully with diverse perspectives
experience with or organizing student events or community building / engagement / advocacy activities
